BARSC-MD: Baccalaureus Artium et Scientiae with Pre-Med Studies

My relationship with my research mentor, Dr. Armstrong, has been one of the most impactful aspects of my undergraduate career. She took me into her laboratory during my freshman year, and she changed the way I approach learning. Until I had the opportunity to work in the Armstrong laboratory, I had only seen genetics in a textbook or lecture. My experience researching insulin signaling in fruit flies illustrated firsthand the years of work scientists dedicate to find each individual piece of the larger scientific world of discovery. I know that through this experience, I will appreciate the years so many individuals dedicate to obtain the medical advancements we take for granted today in my future work as a practicing physician.

Future plans: Through the BARSC-MD program, Alexandra started medical school at the School of Medicine Columbia this year. Her post-graduation plans are to continue medical school and become a practicing physician.
