College of Pharmacy

Pharm.D. Program

The pharmacy profession offers many exciting opportunities, especially for those who attain a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. The College of Pharmacy’s challenging program builds on the University of South Carolina's rich history of educating pharmacists, which began more than 150 years ago.

The University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy's Pharm.D. program is a rigorous full-time, six-year professional degree program. Each year, about 95 percent of our graduates pass the NAPLEX board exams on their first try. Carolina’s program prepares highly qualified graduates who enter the workforce readily in both traditional and nontraditional pharmacy practice settings.

The College of Pharmacy accepts 110 Pharm.D. students each year. Over six academic years (two years of pre-pharmacy and four years of Pharm.D.), students complete a total of 214 hours of coursework while gaining introductory and advanced practice experience in a variety of pharmacy settings.

Students accepted into the University of South Carolina's Pharm.D. program have an average GPA of 3.6-3.7 and an average composite PCAT score of 70th percentile rank. Students are not required to complete a four-year undergraduate degree to be eligible to apply to the College of Pharmacy. Applicants who have completed approximately two years of undergraduate pre-pharmacy courses at any accredited college or university can apply as long as they meet the admission requirements.
