Our Impact
On April 21, WiSaM organized the inaugural "Open Forum for Advocacy: Let’s Talk!," in partnership with the SOMC Culture and Climate Committee. This hybrid lunch-and-learn event featured 28 in-person and over 20 online attendees. The event was designed to introduce our committee, who we are, what we do and ask attendees how we can assist based on our mission, vision and core values in enhancing workplace culture. Subsequent action items will be suggested to leadership. We thank Dr. Spinale and the Office of Research and Graduate Education for sponsoring lunches and Dr. Orr from the Office of Continuous Professional Development and Strategic Affairs for serving as moderator.
The one-hour virtual workshop was held on October 13. Three panelists, Heather Brown, M.D., Clinician at Prisma Health, Annette Rauch, PA, Physician Assistant at Prisma Health and Jessica Sido, Ph.D., Start-up Consultant, introduced themselves. Breakout sessions followed with each panelist discussing their topics of choice.

Dr. Kari-Claudia Allen is an academic family medicine physician at Prisma Health with special interests in women’s health, social justice, health equity, and maternal mortality research and policy. Her keynote seminar entitled “Women of Color in Medicine” was held on September 24.
