McCausland Foundation Programs
The McCausland Foundation programs allow the College of Arts and Sciences to enhance
the student experience by cultivating and retaining talented faculty, attracting visiting
scholars and supporting innovation.
The McCausland Foundation programs were established through a $10 million endowment
gift from alumnus Peter McCausland (’71 history) and his wife, Bonnie. McCausland,
the chairman and chief executive officer of the Pennsylvania-based company Airgas,
Inc., sought to strengthen the liberal arts education offered at the University of
South Carolina — an education he had experienced and which had benefited him during
his career.
The benefit of this endowment goes far beyond its monetary value. Faculty can grow
in their careers as teachers and researchers. Students learn from innovative faculty
and visiting scholars who stand out as leaders in their fields. The college can foster
innovation to support faculty development and the student experience.
