Academic Priorities

The University of South Carolina is the only institution in the state to be classified as having "very high research activity" by the the Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching, its highest rating. The university is also recognized for superior student experiences and is committed to developing flexible new models for college access and affordability.

The fundamental academic priorities of the Office of the Provost listed below support the university's mission of continued excellence.

Undergraduate Studies

At USC we pair within-the-classroom learning with beyond-the-classroom engagement. Undergraduate Carolina students match courses that interest them with opportunities for leadership development, internships, service learning, independent research and global study.

Graduate Studies

The Graduate School serves almost a quarter of the student body at USC Columbia. Our community of engaged scholars and professionals have earned USC's reputation as a top-ranked graduate institution.

Global Carolina

An important component of the university's international mission is to develop and deliver services and programs which facilitate international and American students' engagement in international learning both in- and beyond-the-classroom.

Distributed Learning

Distributed learning uses technology to facilitate learning whether on or off campus, in real time or at student discretion. It enhances access to a first-rate university education for traditional and non-traditional students alike.

Faculty Initiatives

The Office of the Provost supports faculty members in their efforts to enrich the Carolina's scholarly environment by their impact on doctoral, masters and professional programs.

Special Initiatives

Enrollment Management

From welcoming prospective students for campus visits to helping students find ways to finance their education to processing their transcripts and mailing their diplomas, Enrollment Management guides students through the processes necessary to apply to, enroll in and graduate from UofSC.
