Carolina CLIMB

The University of South Carolina is constantly working to ensure that a college degree is accessible and affordable. With the Carolina CLIMB initiative, the university is taking another step toward those goals by reaching out to students who may have never considered higher education a possibility. Through interactions and mentorship, Carolina CLIMB is helping high school students across the state prepare for college and a career.

Helping our high schoolers reach new heights

The overall mission of Carolina CLIMB is to inspire high school students from across the state of South Carolina to pursue a college degree, but it’s so much more than saying “you can do it.” The acronym stands for “Commitment to Learning, Innovation, Mentorship and Beyond,” and each of those key words plays an integral part in improving the opportunities of our state’s young people.

Through visits to high schools as well as follow-ups with undergraduate mentors, Carolina CLIMB exposes students to various career paths, strengthens academic preparedness and leadership skills, helps students learn about personal finance, budget management and paying for college, and engages students in structured learning labs related to their interests.

Our Curriculum

Academic units across the USC Columbia campus built and are expanding a curriculum based on three areas:

  • Academic preparedness seminars and training.
  • STEM seminars and panels that are both interactive and allow students to hear from experts in their fields.
  • Financial literacy.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
