Hotels

While temporary on-campus housing is not usually an option for students prior to move-in day, Columbia has many off-campus hotels near USC's campus that will provide you with a convenient, comfortable place to stay for a few nights. Hotels are a good option if you arrive at USC before your official move-in date for a residence hall or apartment. They are also a great place to stay if your family comes to visit you in Columbia. You should not plan to use a hotel as your primary residence while you study at USC, but they provide a good temporary accommodation while you find housing.

Nearby Accommodations

There are several nearby hotels that we recommend to our new international students. Some hotels may offer a University of South Carolina discount that will reduce your overall price. Make sure to ask about any specials or discounts they offer to USC students when booking your hotel.

Courtyard Columbia Downtown

Located less than a mile from the International Student Services Office, the Courtyard Columbia Downtown is a centrally located hotel in downtown Columbia. It is walking distance to USC's campus and has many nearby dining options.

Clarion Hotel Downtown

The downtown Clarion is located close to the Northeast side of USC's campus. They have an on-site restaurant and offer complementary shuttles to two of Columbia's nightlife and shopping districts.

Sheraton

Columbia's downtown Sheraton hotel is in the heart of the Main Street downtown area. The hotel was built in 1913 and has been renovated for modern convenience, but has also maintained many of its original flooring, mosaics, and woodwork. The Sheraton is about a 15 minute walk from USC's campus.

Columbia Mariott

The downtown Mariott is just around the corner from the Sheraton. The Mariott offers several dining options within the hotel and is near many other restaurants. Like the Sheraton, the Mariott is approximately a 15 minute walk to USC. It is located very close to Columbia's Art Museum and the South Carolina capitol building.

The Inn at USC

The closest hotel to USC's campus is the Inn at USC. Located on USC's campus, the Inn at USC offers modern services and amenities in a historic boutique hotel. The Inn is within walking distance of both the Vista and 5 Points, two of the main shopping, dining, and nightlife areas in Columbia. While the Inn at USC is very convenient, it is also very upscale and may be costly for students who wish to stay for more than one or two nights.
