Brooks Yelton is a Research Associate for The Duke Endowment-funded Health Literacy Initiative in the Department of Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior. Her primary research focuses on racial/ethnic health disparities, social determinants of health, and community-engaged and community based participatory research for co-developing effective prevention messaging and education initiatives. Her research interests include health and mental health literacy, environmental justice, social justice, stigma/psychosocial barriers to health screening and treatment, and cultural agility and intercultural competency in public health practice. Previously, Brooks served as a Research Consultant for the South Carolina Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (SC CPCRN) and remains engaged with community-engaged initiatives focused on health literacy.
