Rising Star Alert! Dr. Christine Pellegrini is one of just 13 early-career faculty to receive the 2022 Breakthrough Star Award from the Office of the Vice President for Research!
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have awarded $1.2 million to Dr. Christine Pellegrini and Dr. Sara Wilcox to lead a three-year special interest project to improve arthritis through a phone-based walking program.
Anne-Hackett Little and Savannah Scruggs from the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics completed the six week Summer Program for Research Interns within the Technology and Behavioral Intervention Lab.
Katherine was the first place award winner for session 2 of the three-minute thesis competition at Discover UofSC 2021. Her presentation is titled "Exploring the Barriers and Facilitators to Physical Activity in Adults with Overweight and Obesity During the Coronavirus Pandemic" and can be found here.
The Graduate Scholar in Aging Research Awards program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who exemplify the highest standards of scholarship focused on aging. Katherine will use her Graduate Scholar in Aging Award to support her research on examining the agreement between accelerometers used to measure sedentary behavior and physical activity among older adults who have had knee replacement surgery.
Katherine completed a Master of Public Health in Physical Activity and Public Health, where she was an AFLAC Fellow and received the Outstanding MPH Student Achievement Award. Katherine will be continuing her studies in the Exercise Science Doctoral Program in Fall 2020. Congratulations Katherine!!
Courtnee graduated in May 2020 with a degree in Exercise Science. She received the Outstanding Exercise Science Student Award from the Department of Exercise Science. Additionally, she received the Outstanding Senior Award and the President's Award. Congratulations Courtnee!!

The purpose of this research study is to examine the effects of two technology interventions on health outcomes after knee replacement.
Participants will be asked to attend 3 study visits (30 minutes/session) and will be randomly assigned to one of two technology programs designed for adults after knee replacement.

The University of South Carolina Prevention Research Center is looking for adults diagnosed with arthritis to participate in a research study to test a new phone-based Walk with Ease Program.
Participants will be asked to take part in 6 weeks of telephone calls to learn how to build walking into your life.
Participants will also be asked to complete 4 visits over 12 months - they will include physical tests, completing surveys and wearing a small physical activity monitor for 7 days. You can earn up to $140 for completing the visits.
