Chamber Music Day and High School String Quartet Competition

UofSC Chamber Music Day and Competition with the Parker Quartet is an exceptional opportunity for advanced high school string quartets.

The next Chamber Day will be held in March 2024.

Since the Parker Quartet will be doing a full Beethoven cycle with multiple concerts during their March 2023 South Carolina residency, they will not be able to dedicate the very demanding full day of coaching and judging activities of a typical Chamber Day in 2023. Additionally, the Parker Quartet fall residency is in early October 2022, so the UofSC string faculty has decided to postpone the landmark 10th UofSC Chamber Day with the Parker Quartet to March of 2024 in order to give participating groups more time to prepare. The exact date of this Chamber Day will be announced in Spring of 2023. Please check this website at that time, and direct any inquiries to Dr. William Terwilliger, director, at wterwilliger@mozart.sc.edu. We have been so impressed with the exceptionally high artistic level of the groups that have participated in past years, and we look forward to hearing many more in March 2024.

"The coaches' words of experience, their critique, as well as words of encouragement not only helped our quartet to challenge ourselves and experiment with different musical concepts during the workshop/competition, but they also instilled within us a lasting goal of trying to understand the music on a deeper level.” – 2014 attendee

Competition Prizes

First Prize: $500
Second Prize: $300
Third Prize: $150
