Darla Moore School of Business

Accounting

With programs and concentrations at all academic levels, the School of Accounting at the Darla Moore School of Business offers something for everyone. The Moore School offers an undergraduate major in accounting, master's degree programs in business measurement and assurance and taxation, and a concentration within the Ph.D. program in business administration.

Three interrelated missions

Three interrelated missions comprise the School of Accounting: education, scholarship and service.

The School of Accounting is dedicated to excellence in all three missions.

Education mission: Prepare students to become either successful accounting professionals in a global information society or Ph.D. qualified accounting academics.

Scholarship mission: Contribute to the accounting discipline and profession through the discovery, integration and application of knowledge.

Service mission: Contribute to the international, national, state and local academic and professional communities.

There are numerous reasons to earn a degree in accounting from the Moore School and become an accountant, including:

  • Accounting develops a good understanding of business and enhances fluency in the language of business,

  • Accounting develops highly valued technical and analytical skills,

  • Accounting provides job security even in times of recession,

  • Accounting is a prestigious and respected profession and

  • Accounting offers diverse career opportunities.

The Master of Accountancy program at Moore School is designed for talented, hard-working individuals who want to develop the full range of skills that a successful career in accounting requires. The MACC program will hone your ability to analyze information, identify problems, provide value-added solutions, interact with various types of people and communicate ideas in a compelling manner. With small class sizes, an impressive record of job placement for graduates and solid preparation for the CPA exam, the MACC program delivers a distinct advantage for a rewarding career.

The Accelerated program allows high-achieving UofSC-Columbia students to complete their undergraduate accounting and MACC degrees in as few as four years.

The Ph.D. concentration in accounting at the Moore School provides students with the skills necessary to become productive scholars or teachers at a major university.

We encourage our students to get involved through accounting student organizations:
