Learn how the coaches of the Carolina Teacher Induction Program work with recent graduates to make impacts in the classroom.

New Teacher Support (CarolinaTIP)

The Carolina Teacher Induction Program, known as CarolinaTIP, serves as a bridge of support for new teachers. The program is a collaboration between the University of South Carolina’s College of Education and school districts across the state. CarolinaTIP helps recent graduates make the transition from college student to successful classroom teacher.

Supporting New Teachers

The Carolina Teacher Induction Program, or CarolinaTIP, is a three-year support program offered to recent University of South Carolina graduates, teaching in participating school districts. As of 2018, CarolinaTIP serves 38 schools in five districts across the Midlands. In the future, the program will expand in hopes of serving College of Education graduates across the state.

CarolinaTIP does not replace district induction programs, instead this program enhances site-specific training and support. CarolinaTIP is the perfect complement to the support teachers already receive from their school and districts. Participants receive a $500 stipend during their first year in the program, and the College of Education is implementing graduate credit for successful completion of all three years in the program.

CarolinaTIP, the only program of its kind, demonstrates the University of South Carolina's commitment to the success of its education graduates. Colonial Life donated $75,000 to support the program. As a company invested in the support of education, Colonial Life expanded its support of the program for the 2018-19 school year.

We know the first three years can be difficult for new teachers, with an increasing number of them leaving the profession during this time. Carolina wants to support our graduates during the transition from the university to the classroom in hopes of retaining quality teachers throughout South Carolina.
