Apply for Undergraduate Admission

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions manages online applications to the university and provides the most comprehensive information on the application process. The admissions office also provides the latest information on application deadlines and university scholarships for S.C. residents and nonresidents. So whether you are applying as a freshman, are looking to transfer to South Carolina or are planning to come to Columbia from another UofSC campus, you can check the requirements based on your current status and apply now.

 

Apply to Graduate School

The Graduate School coordinates online applications to our master's and doctoral programs. There may be supporting materials that are required along with your online application for graduate admission, so be sure to review the degree requirements before you apply.

 

Graduate School Requirements

Most of our graduate students have completed an undergraduate degree in physics. On some occasions, we admit students who don't have a bachelor's in physics. In that case, we may require you to take additional coursework as part of your program. 

You also need to have completed the required courses with a C or better grade. If you haven't taken these courses, it's still possible to be admitted, but you may need to take additional courses during your graduate study.

  • Mechanics (PHYS 503)
  • Electromagnetic Theory (PHYS 504)
  • Kinetic Theory and Statistical Mechanics (PHYS 506)
  • Nuclear Physics (PHYS 511)
  • Solid State Physics (PHYS 512)

Mathematics through Advanced Calculus, including ordinary and partial differential equations and vector analysis, also should have been completed in the undergraduate program.
