The Department of History offers a vibrant and diverse program of courses for undergraduate and graduate students to explore the past to better understand the present. We boast an award-winning faculty who teach and research on many aspects of the historical world. Areas of particular strength include: Public History, the U.S. South, civil rights, popular culture, race and slavery, the environment, and science and technology.

Our Faculty

Our faculty are engaged in exciting research on numerous collaborative and interdisciplinary topics including religious art in Russia, the Black Plague, the history of hurricanes, Civil War memory, the occult in the Islamic world, and ghosts in early modern Europe.
