Current COVID-19 Guidelines

Combating COVID-19 will require an effort from the entire university community, and everyone will be expected to do their part to maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment in which all members of the Gamecock family can live, learn and play. We'll continue to update this information as changes occur.

COVID-19 Testing Requirements:

  • The university strongly encourages all students, faculty and staff to get fully vaccinated in order to protect themselves and the community.
  • If you have received the vaccine, please upload your vaccine record into the MyHealthSpace portal. The portal is compliant with federal health privacy law and your records will not be shared. For instructions on how to upload a copy of your completed vaccine card to MyHealthSpace visit our COVID-19 Vaccine Information page. If you received your vaccine on campus through University Health Services, your vaccine status will be updated automatically.
  • On November 2, 2021, the University of South Carolina sent an email to the Columbia campus regarding federal Executive Order 14042, “Ensuring Adequate COVID-19 Safety Protocols for Federal Contractors.” This order requires certain employees of federal contractors to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by January 18, 2022 or receive approval for a medical or religious exemption before that date. See the plan to comply with the order and frequently asked questions

Face Coverings:

  • Face coverings will be required at all times inside all campus buildings, unless you are in your own residence hall room, private office or you are eating inside campus dining facilities. They are also required on shuttles, buses and other forms of university transportation.

Environmental Monitoring:

  • The university will continue to conduct environmental wastewater monitoring to identify and rapidly respond to COVID-19 outbreaks within our campus community.

International Travel:

  • The Emergency Management Team will continue regular monitoring of international disease activity and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization, US Department of State and others.
  • Guidance is available for faculty through Global Carolina and for students through Education Abroad.

Isolation and Quarantine

  • Following the most updated guidelines from the CDC and SCDHEC, fully vaccinated individuals are not required to quarantine following exposure to a positive COVID-19 infection if they are not showing any symptoms.
  • Unvaccinated individuals are required to quarantine following an exposure to a positive COVID-19 infection, regardless of their symptoms, as per guidelines from the CDC and SCDHEC.
  • All students living on campus are required to file a quarantine and isolation plan with Housing and Residence Life. Emergency arrangements will be provided for on-campus students who are unable to quarantine or isolate at home.
  • Students, faculty, and staff who test positive for COVID-19 will be expected to isolate at home to prevent the spread of illness.

Event and Activity Approval:

  • The Emergency Management Team transitioned control of campus events and activities to the Dean and/or Vice President level for approval of all events taking place on Aug. 16, 2021 and later. See the group gatherings guidelines for some recommendations to keep in mind.
