KJ Mack, Public Health

KJ knew he wanted a supportive and personalized experience at South Carolina. He found both in the South Carolina Honors College.

As a public health major KJ Mack purposefully planned to take full advantage of the more than 600 honors-only courses and explore new ways to study what interests him. And that's exactly what he did with guidance from his Honors College advisor.

As a freshman, KJ's advisor helped him navigate which classes he needed to take, She shared ways he could become more involved, like volunteering to speak to prospective students and their parents.

I know my advisor's door is always open. No matter how many times I want to discuss my aspirations, she's always there to support and encourage me.

He also gets this same support from his professors, too.

"What I really love about my Honors College professors is that they bring their experience in the field directly into the classroom," he said.

Through his honors courses, KJ has designed behavioral interventions, developed methods to bring awareness to suicide prevention and discussed religions of the world with prominent scholars. His courses have provided not only a means to act on his curiosity but also a direction.

I am South Carolina.
