This is a student paper contest that provides travel support and stipend for undergraduate students interested in the atmospheric sciences.
Deadlines are typically in June, but be sure to check the competition website for the current cycle’s deadline.
The purpose of this award is to stimulate interest in meteorology among college students through the submission of original student papers concerned with some phase of the atmospheric sciences. The student must be enrolled as an undergraduate at the time the paper is written, and no more than two students from any one institution may enter papers in any one contest. Papers are evaluated during the summer, and award winners are announced the following fall.
The Society encourages applications from women, minorities, and disabled students, traditionally underrepresented in the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences.
The recipient will be awarded one-year stipend of $1,000 and partial travel support to the AMS Annual Meeting.

Supports eligible undergraduates studying oceanic, environmental, biological, and atmospheric sciences, mathematics, engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences including geography, physics, hydrology, geomatics, or teacher education that support NOAA's programs and mission. Up to $19,000 for academic expenses (stipend of $9500 each year), as well as a 10-week full-time paid summer internship with a NOAA facility (valued at $7000).
This fellowship provides scholarships, useful resources, and unique opportunities to outstanding students looking to pursue graduate education in the atmospheric or related sciences. Fellowship recipients will receive a $25,000 stipend for a nine-month period in the academic year and partial travel support to attend the AMS Annual Meeting.
