Data Analysis and Management Unit

The Data Analysis and Management Unit is a resource here at the Cancer Prevention and Control Program that is available to researchers both within the University of South Carolina community as well as at other institutions. Exposure assessment of a variety of health and lifestyle factors—including demographics, dietary habits (using the tools offered by our Diet Assessment Research Unit), physical activity, general health, quality-of-life assessments and psychosocial factors such as social support—are routinely collected. Here at the Data Analysis and Management Unit, we employ several full-time staff members and multiple graduate assistants to assist with web-based data collection (Qualtrics), design of Teleform optically scannable questionnaires, development of research databases for project management and study participant tracking, and expert data management. Our Unit leadership—Tom Hurley and Samira Khan, both of whom are expert data managers and analysts—collaborate with Biostatistics faculty here at USC, making our Data Analysis and Management Unit well situated to handle the statistical and data management demands of researchers and their projects.
