Account Suggestions

These are some of the areas that could use additional help to grow the funding so that the endowment can sustain the necessary level of support.

Undergraduate

Our undergraduate awards and fellowships help students pay tuition, support them in their research efforts and make it possible to communicate their results at prestigious scientific conferences.  Here are three such funds that we recommend you consider.

The Max G. Gergel Award (A31872)

The Max G. Gergel Award provides an award to a graduating undergraduate chemistry certified ACS or biochemistry major(s) with the highest GPA.

Tommy L. and Fred Hickman III Scholarship (B11076)

The Tommy L. and Fred Hickman III Scholarship is awarded to a worthy student majoring in chemistry or biochemistry with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Preference is given to underrepresented groups to promote diversity among the student body.

Betty R. Fudenberg (B11098)

The Betty R. Fudenberg fund provides support for chemistry or biochemistry undergraduates performing biomedical research at the University of South Carolina.

Graduate

Our funds help graduate students deal with the financial challenges of postgraduate study, but they are also focused on helping them achieve their research goals and present their findings to the larger scientific community.  Here are three such funds that provide broad support for our graduate students.

James E. Copenhaver Memorial Fund (1C1629)

The James E. Copenhaver Memorial Fund is used to provide stipends to support highly deserving undergraduate majors in chemistry who participate in our Summer Research Internship Program with one of our faculty.

James R. Durig Graduate Student Travel Fund (1B1854)

The James R. Durig Graduate Student Travel Fund promotes the participation of graduate students associated with this Department as presenters of their current scientific research work at significant national and international meetings.

Peyton C. Teague Graduate Fellowships (1C1605)

The Peyton C. Teague Graduate Fellowships help attract highly qualified students to our graduate program.
