Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is to serve the State
and the Nation by educating students, by advancing scientific knowledge, and by catalyzing
economic development.
Goals
- Provide a diverse, supportive, and stimulating environment in which faculty, researchers,
staff, and students have opportunities for advancing their individual growth, and
professional careers;
- Seek fundamental molecular-scale understanding of chemical and biochemical systems,
leading to new technologies impacting quality of life and societal needs;
- Support multidisciplinary research and education for both undergraduate and graduate
students in a rigorous academic setting;
- Maintain facilities for the conduct of research and education that continuously improves
to meet higher standards of chemical laboratory safety;
- Foster core values of scientific literacy, integrity, and transparency, and to promote
a culture of collaboration and safety.
