Second Review FAQ

I've been chosen for second review, so I wonder...

Why was I chosen for second review?

At this time, we have only admitted students who meet our highest level of admissions criteria based on grades and standardized test scores. We will spend additional time reviewing applications through March 2018.

Does this mean I'm going to get denied in March?

Not necessarily. Second review decisions are normal in our freshman review process and should not be cause for alarm. The majority of our admissions decisions will be mailed in March.

What can I do to help my chances?

If you have not submitted all of your official test scores to the University of South Carolina Columbia, please have the testing agency send all of your official scores to the university. In addition, if you attempted the SAT or ACT in December 2017, please make sure these scores are sent to the university by the February 1 credentials deadline.

Please do not send letters of recommendation, mid-semester grades, progress reports, or quarter grades unless we specifically request them. Unsolicited materials will not be considered. In the event we need additional information from you, we will post requests on your status page at https://apply.sc.edu/apply/status.

May I take the SAT or ACT in 2017?

Tests attempted during December are the last ones that meet our February 1, 2018 credentials deadline. Scores reported from January test dates will not meet this deadline.

May I appeal this decision?

No decision has been made on your application for admission. Therefore, you cannot appeal.

May I be interviewed to improve my chances of admission?

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is always happy to speak with prospective students, but due to our large application volume, we cannot interview students individually. Interviews are not a factor in our admissions process.

When will I receive my final admissions decision?

Final admissions decisions will be mailed the week of March 12, 2018.
