Apply to Graduate

The graduation application is the first step you will need to take in order to graduate from your academic program. Review the application and award processes below to better understand what happens once you submit your application.

Application Process

Apply Early

Complete the online graduation application in my.sc.edu.  The Apply to Graduate link is located under the Student tab in the bottom right corner of the page. During the application process, you will be asked to verify your program, name, and diploma mailing address. Students expecting to graduate should apply early, based upon your campus or academic unit deadlines.

Award Process

Award Timeframe

Your academic unit has approximately a month after commencement to complete the task of ensuring all degree requirements have been met and awarding degrees to candidates.

Honors and Distinctions

Each year, undergraduate students earn notable academic honors. Those who excel in their studies may receive designations on their transcript.

Diplomas

The official University of South Carolina diploma details a graduate’s name, college, degree, and honors along with the graduation date. Imprinted with the official seal of the university, your diploma will be signed by the university president, awarding school’s dean, the chairman of the Board of Trustees, and the secretary of the university.

Mailing Address

Your diploma will be mailed to the address identified on your graduation application.  Diplomas are typically mailed within three months after you graduate. You can verify your diploma address by viewing your submitted graduation application in my.sc.edu

Check for Account Holds

Don't let a parking ticket stop you from receiving your diploma.  Make sure any holds against your university account are removed at least two weeks prior to graduation. To find out if your account has any outstanding holds, view hold information in my.sc.edu.

Order a Diploma Replacement and eDiploma Online

Diplomas are mailed to graduates within three months after graduation. The following services are available online through our official diploma vendor, Michael Sutter Company.

  • Order a Replacement Diploma: Order your diploma easily online. You will be able to choose Standard Delivery or Express Overnight Delivery. There is a $25.00 charge for each Diploma Replacement. Your Diploma will be printed and mailed within 1-2 days of your order.
  • Order an Official eDiploma: Your University of South Carolina eDiploma is a Signed and Certified PDF of your original paper diploma used for easy diploma verification purposes. The USC eDiploma is a one-time charge of $5. You will receive your eDiploma within minutes of ordering. You can then share your eDiploma as often as you need.
  • Diploma Status: Search the status of your diploma order whether it is your new diploma or replacement diploma.

Online Diploma Service

Returned Diplomas

If your diploma is returned to our office after we attempt to mail it to you, we will hold it for one year from your graduation date. During that time period, we will gladly resend it to you at your new address once you contact our office. After one year, a request for a replacement diploma is required.

Transcripts

The awarding of your degree may take up to 30 days. Degree candidates who are awarded a degree or certificate can view this in my.sc.edu on their unofficial transcript.   Official transcripts requested after the posting of the degree will show the degree as well.
