Hands-On Experience

You'll be doing the real work of helping run housing programs and overseeing our students' experience and creating communities in our residence halls.

Graduate Positions

Assistance Residence Life Coordinator

This is a live-in position.

The assistant residence life coordinator position is 20 hours per week. 

Responsibilities

  • Co-supervision, selection, training and evaluation of resident mentors in your building.
  • Help manage daily operations in the residence hall: supervising student staff, weekly staff meetings, opening and closing the halls, student follow-up and more.
  • Hear conduct cases, serve on department committees and attend professional development sessions. 

All graduate positions participate in a rotating on-call duty system.

Graduate Assistant for Special Projects

This is a live-in position.

The graduate assistant for special projects position is 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Serve on department committees.
  • Supervise and train alternate resident mentor staff.
  • Foster health relationships with special programs in resident life.
  • Assist with assessment.
  • Serve as a member of a Community Education Team.
  • Advise residence hall student government leaders.
  • Collaborate with department research.

You'll need to communicate with staff, students and parents professionally and confidentially. 

All graduate positions participate in a rotating on-call duty system.

Graduate Assistant for Leadership Initiatives

This is a live-in position.

The graduate assistant for residential leadership initiatives position is 20 hours per week. You'll be engaged with students one or two evenings each week and on occasional weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Advise Executive Council of the Residence Hall Association officers.
  • Help build and implement a year-long advisor development curriculum for graduate and professional hall government advisors.
  • Plan and execute a continuing education curriculum for resident mentors.
  • Help with planning and coordination for the resident mentor class EDHE 600: curriculum review, outreach, course enrollment, logistics and administration.
  • Contribute to the resident mentor selection process.
  • Help with assessment to gauge effectiveness of leadership initiatives.
  • Serve on the Student Leadership Development Committee.

Graduate Assistant for Residential Curricular Initiatives

This is a live-in position.

The graduate assistant for residential curricular initiatives position is 20 hours per week. 

Responsibilities

  • Help educate students, faculty and staff according to our guiding philosophies.
  • Communicate with campus departments, particularly those with linked learning communities. 
  • Help select and recruit linked learning community students.
  • Plan, coordinate and carry out tasks for linked living learning communities: create marketing materials, outreach, course selection, enrollment logistics and more.
  • Create and analyze linked learning community assessment: surveys, executive summaries, focus groups, strategic plans and more.
  • Help advise hall government and maintain an accurate hall budget during weekly meetings with the hall treasurer. 

All graduate positions participate in a rotating on-call duty system.

 

Benefits

Stipend: $7,500 first year, $8,000 second year

Tuition Reduction: $2,100 fall and spring, $800 summer

On-Campus Apartment

We provide all residence life graduate assistants with an apartment in one of our residence halls to better support student learning and respond to after-hours crisis.
